On last December, I decided to visit Thailand, during my leave period. I was not travelling alone at this time, but accompanied by my sister. Due to limited times, we only chose Phuket Island as our travel destination.
Flying from Medan, we were using Malaysian Airlines. Transited in Kuala Lumpur for couples of hours, we continued to fly for another two hours to reach Phuket. Times had been showed 6.30 pm when our plane was landed safely. Once we were arrived, we went straightly to Phatong beach, the area that we chose to stay.
On our 1st day, we didn’t do many things. My sister and I just spent the times by walking along the beaches. Seeing some international and domestic tourists enjoying the sea, enjoying the sights of shop souvenirs that be found a lot.
Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Phatong is an touristic area. If you’re a night life lover, you will love Phatong. On the other side, called Bangla Road, which was full with bars, night clubs and discotheques.

The second day, we went to PhiPhi Islands. It is placed 40 km from Phuket Island. The most famous tourist destinations due to the ‘Beach’ movie played by the handsome actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. Going to these islands, we were using the services of Travel Agent. We’re not alone. There are other people join us in the group. The weather was not really nice. Actually, it was not the best moment to visit. The clouds were dark and the wave was higher than usual.
The first bay that we visited is Maya bay. Do not expect the island is like what you watched in Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie. Instead of the silence and pure beach, Maya bay is full with the motor boats. There were hundreds people there in the same time. The bay was still beautiful. But, once again, don’t expect too much. Even I couldn’t take a picture without other people in the back ground.
The crowded Maya Bay
We didn’t spend a long time in Maya Bay. Since there are four other bays that has to be visited. The second one is Monkey Bay. Our boat didn’t put an anchor there. We just spent ten minutes for taking pictures of monkeys. Coming from the country which has various primates, I was not really interested to take the pictures of them. The next destination was Sama bay. This place was perfect for swimming. Even tough the sky was not blue, but the water was so clear. And green. It was beautiful. Some passengers went down to the sea for snorkeling.
During the lunch, the boat took us to Phi Phi Don where we could find many longtail boats. Not like MayaBay, Monkey Bay or Sama bay which are inhabitant, Phi Phi Don has people to live in. It has good restaurants and some hotels if you want to spend the nights there.
My sister and I in Phiphi Don
After having lunch together, we continued our last journey to Phi Phi Leh. It’s also Inhabitant Island. However, along the beach, we still could find some people try to sell their merchandise and some local foods.
The next day, we decided to go around the Phuket Town. From Patong beach, we used public transport that brought us to the down town. It’s not like Phatong, as the tourist destination, Phuket town is only a small city which showed some activities of the people that are living in. The prices of food and transportation were much less compared to Phatong area. My sister suggested me to visit the Phuket Butterfly Garden and Wat Khao Rang Temple.
Phuket Butterfly Garden was built in 1990 and has various variety of butterflies and insects. The best time to visit is on a sunny day as butterflies are usually more active the brighter the day.

Wat Khao Rang is located not far from the Phuket downtown, on the slope of Rang Hill. Here, the visitor can discover a golden large sitting Budha and enjoy the beauty of scenery. It is also the first big Budha image in Phuket before the Giant Budha was built, in the Nakkerd Hills.
Wat Khao Rang
Wat Chalong is about 8 km south of Phuket City. Travel along Chao Fah Nok Rd (Chao Fa West Rd) from the Central Festival mall, and you will see the temple on the left side of the road.
Wat Chalong has been extending a warm welcome to visitors for over a century. The temple is open from seven in the morning to five in the afternoon. When entering the pagoda and temples, we’re requested to take off the shoes.
The Grand Pagoda dominating the temple contains a splinter of Lord Buddha’s bone and is officially named Phramahathatchedi-Jomthaibarameepragat. Taking my time in the pagoda; it was a breezy, cool location and one which is very popular with visitors to the temple. Even through Thailand can sometimes be very warm, it is inappropriate to go into a wat – a place of worship – wearing clothes that reveal one’s shoulders, chest, belly or legs.
The last place that we visited was Big Budha or Giant Budha. It is one of the island’s most important and revered landmarks. The image sits on the top of Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and kata with the height of 45 meters. It is easily to be seen from the far.

Tuk Tuk is the other things that you have to tried when visiting Phuket. It was a mini taxi, called Bemo in mylanguage with attractive colour in its body. Using this transportation is cheaper than taxi but more expensive than public transportation. Try to bargain for the price with the driver, and enjoy Phuket comfortably.
